 Turkey Hunters Care Program

Since 2001, the NWTF has extended a helping hand to their communities by providing more than 38,850 turkeys to disadvantaged families during the holiday season.  The request is that every chapter who can make it happen, provide turkeys for families that need help.

The Idaho NWTF and its chapters will once again be taking part in this program.  Through help of Superfund requests, we pledge to help as many needy families as possible in our state.  The NWTF's program, "Turkey Hunters Care" has been a nationwide attempt to give back to the community in all 50 states and provinces of Canada.  For more information, please contact your local chapter or visit the NWTF's national website at nwtf.org

Here is a picture of workers at The South East Idaho Food Bank handing out one of the one hundred turkeys donated to the food bank by The Southeast Idaho Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation, through our Turkey Hunters Care program. The turkeys donated through the Turkey Hunters Care program is one way we give back to the communities of Southeast Idaho and say thank you to the many kind and generous individuals and businesses in our area that support us through out the year. Turkeys are purchased each year from local grocery stores. This year they were purchased from Lallitans in Soda Springs.  "click" to see the whole story

 2006 Efforts

The Palouse Longbeards Chapter of Moscow distributed 48 turkeys and 30 large cans of vegetables to the Moscow, Deary and Potlatch food banks in November of 2006.  Brian Mahoney and Drew Hawley are pictured above.

Gem State, Idaho State and Women in the Outdoors Chapters combined again this year to purchase 35 turkeys at Wal-Mart.  They provided 10 turkeys to Cole Elementary, 9 to Cynthia Mann, 11 to Valley View, and 5 to Emmett schools.  The school nurse, counselor or principal selects the needy families and takes care of giving the turkey to them.

The Snake River Chapter of the NWTF and the Treasure Valley Chapter of the Safari Club International joined in an effort to provide for the areas hungry.  The two chapters provided 100 turkeys to the Salvation Army and the St Vincent's DePaul food bank.  The drop off was completed on the 20th of November.  The two groups have fund raisers to procure funds for just this effort which will be done again in December for the holidays.  The Wal Mart of Nampa stores Manager (Brett) has helped in arranging for the purchase of the turkeys.  Bret stated that he was glad to see organizations help like this and our efforts are appreciated.  Photos above courtesy of Janet Bell.
