A LETTER FROM KOREY OWENS
(Editor's note: Korey Owens was Idaho NWTF's Conservation Officer of the Year and represented Idaho at the 2011 NWTF National Convention in Nashville.)
Preston — May 10, 2011
Dear Idaho NWTF,
Thank you so much for the opportunity to represent Idaho at the NWTF National Convention. My wife, Stephanie, and I had an amazing time and met a lot of wonderful sportmen and enforcement officers from all over the country. Paul Waldon (below) kept us headed in the right direction and was a great host. We had a wonderful time at dinner and enjoyed the nightly entertainment. Both of us were impressed with the number of conservation programs, youth programs, etc. that NWTF supports both financially and with service hours.

More than anything though I would like to thank the NWTF for recruiting yet another sportsperson. After seeing all of the presentations, booths, hanging out with A LOT of people including women and children in camouflage, and seeing their excitement about hunting turkeys, my wife is now begging me to take her turkey hunting. I never thought I would see the day that my wife would want to hunt, let alone buy camouflage!
If anyone has the opportunity to attend this convention, I would highly recommend it. There was so much entertainment for the whole family. It was great to see so many of our youth there.
Thanks again for the opportunity to represent Idaho.
Sincerely,
Korey Owens
JAIME ELLSWORTH WINS BIG...TWICE!
Boise — April 23, 2011
On the phone from Twin Falls, Mike Stoddard, Idaho State Chapter President, selected a column and Treasurer Charley Henry in Eagle selected a row. In Boise, Board Member Marty Gregory matched these numbers to a randomly-sorted Excel file containing only the e-mail addresses submitted for the shotgun drawing. The address belonged to Jaime Parkinson.
Entries were received primarily through submissions on IdahoNWTF.org, though some written entries were mailed and some were deposited in boxes at NWTF banquets. Jaime's entry turned out to be one from the Gem State Chapter's banquet.
Tracking down our winner proved a bit challenging as her name had changed! Jaime was at the banquet with fiance, Joel Ellsworth, and, with the wedding taking place between the banquet and the drawing date, had become Mrs. Ellsworth. With a new husband AND a new shotgun, April turned out to be a win-win month for Jaime!

Presentation of Idaho NWTF's 870 turkey gun took place at Sportsman's Warehouse in Boise. (left to right) Joel and Jaime Ellsworth, Mary and Charley Henry, Idaho State Chapter NWTF Secretary and Treasurer.
SE IDAHO CHAPTER HOSTS 2011 HUNT WITH THE DIRECTOR
Pocatello — April 8, 2011
The weather was tough but that didn't keep Jayden Peterson from enjoying a great opening day of the Idaho Youth turkey season. Jayden was the lucky winner of Idaho NWTF's annual Hunt With The Director, hosted this year by the Southeast Idaho Chapter based in Pocatello.
Jayden was accompanied by Region 5 Supervisor, Mark Gamblin, who was filling in for Director Virgil Moore, and presented Jayden with a special NWTF knife (right). Jayden's dad, Kim Peterson, was also in attendance as was SE Idaho Chapter's Dave Cole who ran the calls. Hunt planning and logistics were handled by Chapter President Ed Bullock, and members Cole and Boyd Burbank did the scouting and set up blinds in advance of the hunt. What a great memory for Jayden!

2011 IDAHO NWTF SCHOLARSHIPS ANNOUNCED
Boise — February 24, 2011
The scholarship judging committee has completed their evaluation and scoring of the scholarships. We had 17 scholarship applications statewide. We will be issuing 15 local chapter scholarships (even though we only have 13 local chapters) because we had tie situations with the scoring and felt it fair to issue scholarships to each one of those applicants. Providing scholarships to Idaho youth is such a worthwhile way to utilize Idaho's super fund dollars. And, while we want to everything we can, there is only so much allocated. Accordingly, lwo applicants will not receive scholarships.
We want to thank the judging committee for volunteering their time to score the applications. It is not an easy task when we have so many excellent candidates from the different Idaho communities.
